    Castillo de Santa Barbara



      This formidable castle is located on the Mount Benacantil. A landmark of Alicante city, in the ancient days it was used to fend off attacks from pirates and welcome merchant ships.     The town hall is another historical building with Baroque architecture. It is just behind La Explanada Park downtown. Before viewing the dramatic statue of Dali, one can see a small metal disc indicating an instrument that is used to measure the height above sea level in all other parts of Spain.

     

    Cathedral of San Nicolas

    Located next to the town hall, this cathedral dates back to the 17th century and reflects the renaissance and baroque style. It has a beautiful blue dome and a charming garden surrounding it.

     

    Alicante Theatre

    This is another must visit on your Alicante tour- constructed in the neoclassical style was completed in 1847. The theater provides platforms for ballet, opera and theatre plays. The interiors and exteriors are beautiful and artistic with a six-columned porch.
