    Alicante Towns

    Alicante Towns

Tabarca is a beautiful rocky island which makes a perfect day trip from Alicante. The island is officially considered as part of Alicante and lies only 11 miles southeast of the city, making it easily reachable by boat in just under an hour.

Enjoy the pristine natural beauty here with wonderfully mild climate and sparkling clear waters. Tabarca is an official Marine Reserve in Spain and protects over 1400 hectares of marine life. Fishing is restricted here including a beautiful flowering sea plant. For this reason fishing is restricted on the island, but you can still try your luck at professional sport fishing. If you don’t bring in a good catch, you can always enjoy some of the delicious fresh seafood available from the cluster of shore side restaurants.

You should also visit the beautiful baroque Iglesia de San Pedro y San Pablo and the remains of the wall which was built to protect the city. The tower of Saint Joseph to the northeast of the city is another interesting landmark, measuring 27.5 meters in height.

If none of these, you can just relax and spend your afternoon by wandering along Tabarca's stunning rocky beaches and admiring the sparkling sea views.

    The City of Santa Pola

Santa Pola lies just twenty kilometers south of Alicante and is very easily reachable either by car on the National highway N-332. This was once a fishing village- but now a prosperous city thriving on the tourists it receives every year.

In the centre of the town stands one of the most impressive castles and fortresses in the area. It now houses an impressive museum as well as a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Loreto. Entry to the castle is free but there is a small charge for the museum. The museum is closed on Mondays.

The Plaza de la Glorieta located here is the center of nightlife in the city with tourists and locals all coming out in the night to enjoy drinks and make merry.

There are 6 golden beaches, and a fully operational fishing port and sports marina. All manners of water sports can be enjoyed here- The well organised marina offers sailing, fishing and regattas. The Santa Pola Nautical Club is one of the finest sites on the coast. It has a rowing, sailing and canoeing school. Diving is also popular in the clear waters. Because of the heights of the Santa Pola Cape, you can also enjoy paragliding and hang gliding
